Our Mission
Our mission is to increase the level of play for both JV and Varsity high school athletes in the greater Santa Cruz area. Players will gain leadership and sportsmanship skills as they prepare for the next level of play. Simply put we’re about getting BETTER! We help our athletes grow and continue their development in a fun and positive environment. Our emphasis is on a “TEAM FIRST” approach where each player is expected to give maximum effort and commitment.
Santa Cruz SPIN is a nonprofit volunteer based organization that began in 2009 out of the need to keep student-athletes in the Santa Cruz area playing local. We offer a high level of competitive play but reduce the amount of expense and long-distance travel to play softball.
Keep In Touch
Fundamental
We work on fundamentals as well as advanced skill development by experienced high school and collegiate players/coaches from across Santa Cruz County. Our staff include tenured pitching, catching, infield, and hitting coaches to help players achieve their goals.
We teach the mechanics of hitting and work on developing a good foundational swing. We use video analysis to help hitters improve their swing.
Our teams are best suited for athletes who want to continue developing their skills and prepare for the next level of play.
We play in local tournaments to keep our costs down. However, we plan to travel to Tahoe or Napa for an out of town experience. We do take advantage of tax deductible fund raising opportunities to keep players costs as low as possible. Our target fee is $300 to participate (each year this adjusts depending on our costs.
Teams that qualify for and choose to compete in regional or national championship tournaments will incur additional fees (our experience is around $100 per player plus any travel expenses).
For the summer, we’ll attempt 5 local tournaments/qualifiers and 1 out of town tournament. This depends on schedules. And, we finish in plenty of time for athletes to rest and participate in fall sports.
