Here’s are a few basic keys we use to teach our hitters to get into a powerful starting position. Gripping the bat properly and positioning the bat in a good powerful position is key to starting correctly. Remember these keys:

- The deeper the bat is in your hands the weaker you become.
- Hold the bat in your fingers as much as possible.
- Split your door knocking knuckles in half.
- Start with your hands at or behind your back shoulder.
- Your back elbow should be between high and low (~45°). Relax!
- Your back elbow positioning is higher then your front elbow
- Lay the bat on your shoulder and lift slightly.
- Point the knob towards the catcher
- Make sure both eyes are on the target or pitcher.
- Make sure that you are not tilting your head to see the pitcher
- The least amount of things you need to break down the better
- Keep your front shoulder tucked and your chin on that shoulder. We use “Mike” and “Ike” to symbolize where your chin should start and finish.
